Sometimes, a case that may seem obvious as a candidate for a site and/or vehicle inspection may simply be handled as a desktop review. That was the case when a motorcycle impacted the front of an SUV at an unknown rate of speed. ARCCA’s motorcycle accident reconstruction experts were asked to determine the speed of the motorcycle at impact and whether or not the brain injury the motorcyclist suffered could have been mitigated by the use of a helmet. ARCCA experts were able to calculate the speed at impact using the detailed photographs that were available, negating the need for a vehicle inspection. ARCCA’s biomechanical expert then used those findings, as well as other information available (i.e., medical records, witness statements, diagnostic images, etc.), to make his determination regarding the use of the helmet.
