Road Barrier Safety – ARCCA Expert Appears On KUTV
Chris Ferrone, a premier expert in vehicle and heavy truck accident reconstruction at ARCCA, was interviewed recently by KUTV in Salt Lake City regarding a serious interstate accident whereby a female driver’s SUV slid on a patch of ice and crashed into the concrete road safety barriers on the side of the road. The barriers did not hold, allowing the vehicle to pass thru them and plummet down a steep 10-20 foot incline where it flipped over and caught fire.
After inspecting photos of the barriers, Chris said that the cement barriers were most likely not properly joined together – possibly due to human error during installation or maintenance, as the pin that secures two sections together appeared to be missing. He went on to say that if these barriers are installed correctly, they are designed to hold and prevent a vehicle from crashing thru. He stressed the need for periodic inspections of road barriers to ensure that they are properly installed and maintained.
