Dr. Koiler is a Senior Biomechanist specializing in injury biomechanics and human factors, based on analysis of incident kinematics, force data, and human environment interaction. He has extensive experience evaluating human movement and human-environment interactions in slips, trips, and falls, including the analysis of building codes and standards associated with premises liability. In addition, Dr. Koiler applies his expertise to amusement rides and devices, restraint systems, and motor vehicle collisions, where he determines the relationship between accident severity, occupant kinematics, and human injury tolerance.

Dr. Koiler earned a Ph.D. in Biomechanics and Movement Science, and dual Master of Science degrees in Mechanical and Biomedical Engineering from the University of Delaware. He also received a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Tehran. His doctoral and graduate research focused on the intersection of engineering and neuroscience applied to human movement, including gait rehabilitation using robotic exoskeletons and functional electrical stimulation (FES) for children with cerebral palsy. Dr. Koiler also developed a portable electromyography (EMG) biofeedback device to improve walking and has conducted significant research using functional neuroimaging (fNIRS, fMRI, EEG) and Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS).

Dr. Koiler has experience working as an Adjunct Professor lecturing at the University of Delaware and has over 3 years of experience in the field of forensic biomechanics, during which time he has developed specialized experience in injury causation, product and premise liability, including analyses for slips, trips & falls, amusement rides and devices and water slides, and automobile crash dynamics. He has also co-authored a SAE Technical Paper on occupant kinematics during chain-collisions. Dr. Koiler continues to  perform research in these areas and contribute to the field as a participating member of ASTM Committee F13 on Pedestrian/Walkway Safety and Footwear and ASTM Committee F24 on Amusement Rides and Devices.
