ARCCA biomechanical engineers along with our crashworthiness and accident reconstruction engineers evaluated a case involving a fatality linked to an alleged seat belt malfunction. The victim’s body was interred without x-rays or an autopsy, leaving questions as to the specific cause of death. In order to continue with the investigation, ARCCA’s biomechanical engineers worked with a local medical examiner to conduct an autopsy following permission received from the victim’s nearest of kin to exhume the body. The autopsy revealed the cause of death and specifics of the fatal injury, enabling our biomechanical engineer and restraint engineer to opine regarding the relationship of the injuries to the seat belt design.
