When the incident description does not appear to support the vehicle’s actual physical damage, an adjuster must consider whether the damage could have been enhanced or exaggerated. ARCCA Accident Reconstructionists carefully examine the facts of the case, and employ various scientific methods to determine if the damages claimed in the incident could have happened as described by the claimant. Exemplar vehicles are sometimes inspected to determine whether the striking vehicle could have caused the described damages to the claimant vehicle.
In one such case, our expert concluded the impact damage was inconsistent with a claimant’s description, and was instead from multiple sources rather than a single vehicular impact. Charges were filed against the claimant for insurance fraud.
