ARCCA has been involved with numerous child safety issues and cases. In this case the vehicle was involved in a side impact crash and a child, who was restrained in the back seat in a child seat with poorly designed side wings, suffered a serious brain injury. ARCCA’s biomechanical expert was able to determine that the child’s head impacted the door, which was the cause of the injury. Our child seat expert determined that the defective design of the side wings caused the child’s head to impact the door. Our expert then developed a feasible alternate design which was tested along with the production model. The results showed that if the alternate design had been in use, the child would have remained within the survival space of the child safety seat and avoided the brain injury.
