Explosions CLE Webinar – Join Us On July 29th!
ARCCA would like to invite attorneys in Washington, California and Florida to join us for a complimentary CLE webinar on “Rapid Product & Equipment Failures” to be held July 29, 2020 from 12:00-1:00 pm PST; 3:00-4:00 pm EST. CLE credits for WA, CA and FL will be offered.
This informative webinar will be presented by two premier experts in their field – TIMOTHY TRESIERRAS, PhD, P.E, CXLT, and JAMES MASON, PhD, P.E. Both are Senior Engineers with ARCCA and have significant experience in investigating mechanical and other failures.
Typically the word “explosion” conjures the image of a sudden blast with a fire ball. This type of explosion involves a rapid chemical reaction (chemical energy) as the initial source of energy. In the realm of consumer/commercial products and equipment, an explosive or sudden failure is more often associated with the mechanical energy stored and utilized by the product/equipment, and while some product failures may look very similar to our traditional mental image of an explosion, some experts/engineers have aptly described the dynamics (with a bit of tongue in cheek) as a “rapid onset of disassembly”.
Unfortunately, the ramifications of some sudden failures can include injuries/death, broken equipment, and damaged property and can lead to fire or water losses. Typically, a specific series of events leads to a loss or mishap, and a failure analysis to identify mechanisms for failure is important in both coverage issues and potential subrogation claims.
In this presentation we will cover the general science behind why some products fail suddenly or with an explosive manner due to the mechanical energy they store and utilize. The discussion will also cover how a competent and reliable failure analysis is required to determine the root cause of the loss. Numerous case studies will be provided.
