ARCCA’s biomechanical experts were asked to review an accident where a piece of plaster detached from the ceiling, fell and hit a person on the head. The victim claimed a traumatic brain injury as a result. Our expert obtained an exemplar piece of the plaster from the subject ceiling and brought it back to our test facility. The biomechanical expert then conducted a drop test where the exemplar plaster was dropped on a fully instrumented dummy under controlled conditions, and he evaluated the potential for brain injury. The conclusion was that the forces applied to the head and brain were well within the tolerable range.
