A driver was involved in an accident. He claimed the vehicle’s brakes would not slow the vehicle, and he lost control and crashed. An ARCCA engineer, who is also an ASE certified Master Technician, examined the vehicle and identified a defect, supporting the driver’s claim. The polymer engine cover was defectively designed and caused interference with the cruise control system, which would not permit the vehicle to decelerate. This was further identified in other exemplar vehicles, and a recall was issued by NHTSA. An alternative design was developed and installed which would have eliminated the defective condition.<0p>
