During some vehicular crashes, it is the airbag itself that causes injuries. ARCCA was asked to investigate a crash where the victim sustained a serious neck injury. An ARCCA airbag expert inspected the vehicle and looked for forensic evidence on the airbag, as well as the occupant’s seat position. From this data, he was able to determine the precise occupant seating position at the time of the crash and the occupant’s geometry relative to the airbag. Our biomechanical expert then evaluated the mechanism of the injury and determined what could have been done to eliminate this injury.
