Rollover accidents occur frequently with trucks and SUVs. When rollovers occur, it is important to have adequate roof strength to prevent occupant space intrusion. Just as important is an effective restraint system design to minimize or eliminate head-to-roof contact during the crash event. In one case, ARCCA’s crashworthiness seat belt and structures experts worked together to evaluate the safety performance of the truck. The structures expert evaluated the design of the roof and its performance during the rollover. The seat belt expert determined if the seat belt system performed within the expected acceptable range. ARCCA’s biomedical expert then evaluated an opposing expert’s claim regarding body movement and the “so-called” diving theory.

The visual communications team assisted counsel by developing a 3D animation of the rollover scenario. This animation effectively visualized our experts’ opinions and analysis while also helping to debunk the opposing expert’s flawed approach.
