Occasionally disputes arise as to the performance of traffic lights and whether they were the cause of accidents. In one instance, the claimant was making a turn through an intersection and was struck by another car. The claimant contended that the green light did not last long enough to allow safe passage through the intersection.

An ARCCA engineer went to the local township office and reviewed the particular sequencing program for that light and then confirmed the sequencing through a light timing study. The acceleration profile capability of the vehicle was analyzed, and the engineer concluded that the traffic light provided ample time to safely pass through the intersection.
